Anthony’s BIM Vision: To promote BIM to not only be central in design and construction, but also in safety assurance

Anthony’s career to-date has focused on Engineering and Technical Design management, specifically on BIM and Digital Engineering in the Infrastructure and Oil and Gas Industries with his work on a range of projects from suburban rail developments to a remote LNG gas project. Anthony’s hands-on experience has given him a thorough, technical understanding of BIM implementation and best practice requirements to benefit all levels of project teams. Anthony combines his current role as Manager of Virtual Design, Construct and BIM for Leighton Engineering with further study in Master of Engineering in Project Management.

Chris is a Building Services Engineer who for the last 30 years has been instrumental in the use of new technology, helping to shape the industry by delivering virtual construction on some of the UK’s most prestigious projects. A founding Board Member of the IAI/buildingSMART UK Chapter, Chris was involved in delivering recommendations which have now been adopted by the UK Government BIM Task Force. Relocating to Adelaide in 2011, Chris is currently the BIM Manager for the Hansen Yuncken and Leighton contractors Joint Venture on the new Royal Adelaide Hospital Project having implemented BIM throughout the design, construction and into the operational stages. He sits on the Steering group of the National BIM Initiative, is Co-Chair of the SA Lean Construction Institute and on the SA Government BIM Steering Committee.

An active member of buildingSMART Australasia for many years and a partner of the working group that drove the development of the current National BIM Initiative, Jim has had a career-long interest in BIM. Starting with a Research Masters during the late 1970s that demonstrated the concept of 3D building modeling technology, Jim’s research in the area saw him offered an academic post at UNSW from 1981-2012. Whilst retired from university teaching, Jim remains an active member of the industry as a current member of the Australian Standards Mirror Committee appointed to a number of ISO Working Groups delivering continual improvement on BIM standards, and the buildingSMART International Infrastructure Committee currently focused on coordinating new work to extend the IFC data schema into the infrastructure space.

John’s career is founded in architecture, the central thread of his professional activity has been the application of computing in the field of architecture and design; however, John has always taken an interest in the broader context of the industry, particularly in the information technology (ITC) sphere. From the early 90s John’s focus on applying, initially CAD, now BIM, has given him an in depth appreciation of the impact of IT on the entire construction industry, both locally and globally. John is passionate about articulating and implementing the business process changes organisations must make to exploit new technologies. As current Chairman of buildingSMART’s Australasia Chapter, John is also Principal of consulting company CQR Pty Ltd and is a Research Fellow for the Collaborative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living a key outcome of which is the development of a Precinct Information Model (PIM).

David is the founder of QSx Technologies and Mitchell Brandtman 5D Quantity Surveyors a firm that provides 5D Quantity Surveying and Construction Expert Opinion. He is also a member of the leadership committee for Collaborate-ANZ. With 34 years of industry experience (in building, civil, heavy engineering and resources) and a family background in construction consulting, he is known for approaching technology integration in a strategic and innovative way. He believes in open leadership, technology and the collective ability to create positive industry change.

Rolf has more than 20 years’ experience in the New Zealand Construction and Housing Industry and is passionate about seeing its efficiency and performance lifted. As Chief Executive of Masterspec, an industry-owned company providing specification systems and data online to over 1,200 New Zealand design practices, Rolf is a strong advocate for greater industry adoption of the buildingSMART frameworks and resources. Rolf is also a buildingSMART Australasia work group member for BIM Object Libraries and a Board Member of the International Construction Information Society.

Group Manager: BIM Systems – John Holland Group – He has over 25 years of diverse international experience in the built environment industry; having worked for contractors, developers and design consultancies. The past 14 years have been with John Holland; collaborating with Government, Authorities, Clients and Project Delivery Teams on the delivery of large and complex infrastructure and building projects.
Don has always pursued technology as a means to innovation, and since his early involvement with CAD and integrated database systems he has been committed to leveraging BIM and related digital engineering technologies. He believes these offer a great opportunity to improve collaboration and increase efficiencies enabling superior delivery of the built environment. He is dedicated to engagement with industry, to facilitate dialogue and realise further benefits of digitisation for our industry.

Mike has 15 years’ experience in the management and coordination of digital design information on a variety of multi‐disciplinary construction projects. This experience has seen him work on a number of high profile projects both domestically and internationally. He has a diverse skillset in the areas of Digital Engineering and Spatial Sciences and has a principle
focus on integrated BIM & GIS delivery. The experience and pragmatic approach allows Mike to provide digital driven solutions, aimed at driving efficiency and innovation in the design, construction and delivery of the built assets Mikes most recent accomplishments include being a part of the project delivery team for Crossrail C435 – BFK JV, as well as the implementation of a BSI Certified Framework for the London region of a Tier 1 European contractor.
