1. Article 1 - General
1.1 Name and structure
This organisation is incorporated as an incorporated association under the laws of New South Wales and shall be known as the International Alliance for Interoperability Australasia Chapter, hereinafter referred to as "IAI-AC". All rights, titles and interests to the IAI-AC name and any trademarks, service marks, commercial symbols and logos used in connection with the name are owned by the IAI-AC.IAI-AC members are only authorised to use the trade marks, symbols and logos of the IAI-AC as specified in these by-laws or approved in advance by the IAI-AC Board of Directors.
1.2 Purposes of the IAI-AC
The purposes of the IAI-AC shall be to:- promote the development of the industrial resources of the Australasian building and construction industries by specifying Industry Foundation Classes as a universal language for electronic data exchange to improve communication, productivity, delivery time, cost and quality throughout the design, construction, operation and maintenance life cycle of buildings and infrastructure;
- help integrate the industry into the global electronic market and improve productivity of the design and construction process in Australasia;
- publish Industry Foundation Classes to create an industry-wide standard enabling the building and construction industries to communicate in a consistent and interoperable manner;
- use computer technology based on object-orientated data to create synergy among the languages of the building and construction industries and make the industry's information systems interoperable;
- develop and administer a certification process to effectuate the goals above; develop and administer a certification process to certify that software applications fully comply with the standards as defined by the IAI;
- develop, in cooperation with IAI International and other IAI chapters, an industry-wide framework through the use of guidelines to enable and encourage information sharing and interoperability within the building and construction sector;
- provide a forum for members to work together on technical and marketing programs to advance the IAI standards for information sharing;
- take advantage of the collective power of the industry to produce a communication standard based on industry best practice which will propel it into the future;
- provide international linkage and co-ordination for speedy delivery of an infrastructure to be adopted gradually by the industry;
- to perform the role
of a Chapter of the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) in
the Australasian region, in accordance with the Charter of the IAI and decisions
of the IAI International Council
- The IAI-AC shall have the
power to promote the aforesaid purposes by any appropriate means not contrary
to applicable laws or inconsistent with these by-laws.
