buildingSMART & Engineering Services, Sydney [final update]

— filed under:

You can’t run a project without exchanging information - and the way that you do this is about to be revolutionised. This event is the first buildingSMART event of 2007 to be held in Sydney, in conjunction with CIBSE. This presentation focusses on how the engineering - structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and civil disciplines - can exploit IFC model data. We invite engineers and other design and construction professionals to hear what is happening in Norway and elsewhere in Scandinavia with IFC based collaboration.

Previous buildingSMART events have given an overview of how BIM and IFC could apply to many businesses over the main life-cycle phases. In this presentation, supported by CIBSE, our aim is to show how the engineering professions can exploit IFC model based processes.

Clients are starting to call for BIM implementations and IFC based open collaboration. Before you just buy an upgrade from your current 2D CAD vendor isn't it time to appraise the market-place locally and internationally for new BIM based engineering tools?

The opportunity arises as we have three special quests from Norway who will be participating in the RAIA National Convention in Melbourne. All three are involved in innovative softare systems based on the IFC protocol, and are active members of buildingSMART Norge.

Bjørn Stangeland is the Managing Director of Data Design Systems ASA, which specialises in building services applications. Janne Aas-Jakobsen is Director, Built Environment for EPM Technology As who offer IFC server solutions. Kjetil Gjesdal is Sales and Product Manager for Powel AS who have developed an IFC compliant tool that integrates GIS data with civil works.

Rush Sipkes of Triple ‘M’ Mechanical Services, a Sydney based design, installation and maintenance of building services company, will talk about their integrated duct estimating and fabrication system.

In addition we are planning to have demonstrations of structural applications that have integrated their structrual analysis tools with IFC models.

Individuals or practices who would like to have more detailed discussions or demonstration from our Nordic visitors are encouraged to contact them (click on their names above for email) and make appointments while they are in Sydney 23-26th April or Brisbane 16-18th April.
