IAI Brisbane Forum

- The IAI-AC, in conjunction the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), Engineers Australia, the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), Master Builders Queensland, The CRC-Construction Innovation and the Department of Public Works will present a new vision for the construction industry. Speakers include Max Smith, Deputy Director-General Works, Department of Public Works, John Mitchell Chairman IAI-AC, Peter Scuderi, CRC-CI, Tom Fussell, Director+Chief Architect, Project Services, DPW, and Cameron Stephenson, ActiveFacility, Brisbane. The meeting will canvass how government and industry can work together to achieve positive outcomes for the benefit of the Australian construction industry, with a view to an action plan for ongoing activities in Queensland.

NSW Government Architect's Office and IAI-AC Meeting

- On 21 June 2006, 8:15-12:00 noon, the NSW Government Architect's Office in conjunction with the International Alliance for Interoperability - Australasia Chapter will present a vision for the construction industry which will improve communications, productivity, delivery time, cost and quality of building. Building Information Modelling (BIM) using the IAI's open information standard IFC integrates design, construction, operations and maintenance over the life cycle of buildings. The meeting is a forum for government agencies and industry to discuss the opportunity IFC and BIM provide as a national standard for information sharing in the Construction Industry. Presentations will include the FM Exemplar Project case study which has examined the use of standardised BIM for FM/AM services at the Sydney Opera House.

- The IAI will hold their International Summit at Munich this April. Apart from the technical and Council meetings, the German Chapter are hosting an industry day on Wed 5 Apr 2006, which will showcase recent international developments (inclouding a case study of the Australian CRC-CI's IFC based products such as LCAdesign).

Victorian BuildingSMART Pilots - Meeting 2

- The IAI Australasia Chapter, sponsored by the Building Commission in Victoria, continues its program of BIM (building information modelling) based pilots using the IFC open data sharing protocol (developed by the IAI). This second meeting followed an intial meeting on 28 Feb 2006, where over 20 organisations indicated strong interest to participate. Over 5 projects from government and private clients have been offered, representing housing, offices, educational and health facility types. The meeting was addressed by visiting Finnish architect and current chairman of the IAI Technical Committee, Arto Kiviniemi, describing his experience with the Finnish government's now many model based projects, including the new Helsinki Music Hall.
