The final program for the joint buildingSMART + VANZI conference is being finalised. It will be held at the Australian Technology Park, Sydney, from the 15-16 September, 2014.
Henk Schaap, Director of GOBAR Advisors, Netherlands, will deliver the Keynote Address.
Henk graduated in 1978 in mechanical engineering. He started his career at a consultancy office in naval shipbuilding. After working a few years as a design specialist he became head of IT. In that role he was responsible for the development and deployment of automated systems for configuration management, production information, information exchange, CAD and ship design.
In the period from 1987 to 1996 Henk Schaap was leading a software company specialised in applications for design, engineering in information management for construction, process industry, maritime and aviation industries.
In 1996, he set up the consultancy company “GOBAR Adviseurs”. The company is specialised in improving business processes in engineering, construction and asset management. Given the observation that collaboration in construction is often project oriented, the company has a strong focus on the development and deployment of information standards that are enablers for process integration.
Over the past decade, the construction sector in the Netherlands developed two important open BIM standards. One standard, named VISI, is process oriented and focuses on the interaction between roles in the construction process (now an ISO standard). The other standard is named COINS, which is focussed on the integration of information of spatial network, physical assets, documentation, GIS, 3D-models and object type libraries. Henk Schaap was leading the development of the VISI standard between 1998 and 2003 and the development of the COINS standard between 2003 and 2010. He was reporting to a consortium of 30 organisations from the construction sector and 15 IT-companies.
Henk Schaap has a strong involvement in the BIM program of Rijkswaterstaat in the Netherlands, the government instrumentality responsible for the nation’s road and canal networks. In this 3-year program, with a budget of EUR 15 million, Henk is the leading consultant for the setup of the BIM program, the general approach and architecture for achieving process integration using open standards, the setup of pilot projects, and leading an experimental BIM implementation for support of asset management.
Henk is also a member of the board of buildingSMART chapter Benelux, is vice-chair of the Infra Room for buildingSMART international, took initiative to develop the IFC extension for alignment and is convenor of the ISO working group that deals with the standard IDM – Information Delivery Manual.
