Building Simulation Nov 2011 Conference, Sydney

John Mitchell, Chairman of buildingSMART Australasia gave a keynote address on the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Australia, highlighting the challenges the Australian construction industry is facing to achieve a whole of industry benefit from this new technology. Nearly 500 persons attended the IBPSA-AIRAH hosted conference with a large proprtion (approx 80%) from overseas. BIM was an important theme with two sessions devoted to the topic. Increasingly thermal performance/energy simulation engines must be integrated with BIM to improve the speed, quality and efficiency of analysis. The talk outlined the scope of the Australasian BIM National Initiative and in particular the crucial role building product manufacturers must play in providing BIM compatible product information.
