As the CEO of buildingSMART International, Patrick MacLeamy states, in the introduction to the 2013 Annual Report, “2013 was a significant year for buildingSMART International.”
“Our data model, IFC4, was accredited by ISO in the spring, giving further weight to a standard that is central to the use of open BIM. Accreditation will ensure that the buildingSMART standard reaches a wider market.”
The opportunity to submit their software products for buildingSMART accreditation was taken up by 6 vendors, with accreditation granted to 14 products.
Work on expanding IFC to cover infrastructure projects progressed with the development of an “infra room”.
Partial funding was secured to develop a Model Coordination View for IFC4, and the Data Dictionary project moved forward.
buildingSMART continues to grow, with two new Chapters launched in China and Hong Kong, and the organisation is undergoing significant changes in order to meet the needs of a changing world. MacLeamy published a paper in May 2013, entitled The Way Forward, and many of its proposals have now been adopted by the International Council.
MacLeamy feels the future is bright for buildingSMART, “Through our internal changes, we will be well placed to help unlock more efficient and collaborative ways of working – to the benefit of the project during its whole life-cycle and to all the players.”
