Tasmania hosts a Construction Industry Summit (COINS)
The Tasmanian Building Construction Industry Training Board (TBCITB) held on 27 May 2010 a very successful one-day seminar, at the Moorilla Estate Conference Centre focussed on the need for continuous innovation to improve the performance and productivity of the Tasmanian construction sector.
The conference was directed by Michael Pascoe, who opened with an assessment of the economic prospects over the near term. buildingSMART board members, Tom Fussell and John Mitchell talked to how BIM could contribute to better outcomes from the industry.
A broad cross-section of local speakers examined key issues from residential construction, engineering and contracting viewpoints.
Martin Farley, author of the "Tasmania, a State of Building Excellence" report (download here) provided assessment of the innovation process and opportunities.
BIM was a popular topic and at the wrap-up several groups were supporting the establishment of industry pilots. Project proposals were suggested by both Government and Industry participants.
TBCITB undertook to followup the meeting and prepare a strategy plan to incorporate the many constructive suggestions raised. Contact Peter Coad, TBCITB for more information.
